Configuring the Discrete PI Historian Source block

Requirements

  • PI Historian OLE DB Provider.

In order to connect to a PI Historian using the PI Historian Source in the Continuous Troubleshooter, please ensure that you have installed the PI Historian OLE DB Provider, provided with your PI Historian installation disk, on your client machine.

Properties

  • Data Source

The data source provider for this PI Historian.  The data source provider is configured using the standard Microsoft Data Link Wizard.  NOTE:  When configuring the data link wizard, be sure to select the PI OLE DB Provider as the data provider when presented with the list of available data providers.

  • Imported data

The type of data required.  Options are either Raw values or Interpolated values. Consult your PI Historian documentation for more information on these supported options for the PI Historian.

  • Sampling period

Select the sampling period for the interpolated data.  Sampling periods are specified in seconds.

NOTE:  The Imported data option must be set to Use Interpolated values for this option to be available.

  • Import Options:

The following two options are available for this setting:

    • Use only data in this time window:  Allows users to specify a window start and end time for importing data

    • Use the latest data available:  Allows users to import the most recent data by specifying a duration

  • Window Start

Specifies the start of the time window for the selected tags.  (See Import Options above)

  • Window End

Specifies the end of the time window for the selected tags (See Import Options above)

  • Duration:

The duration of the data import window (See Import Options above)

  • Create Index

If enabled, the source will create a new unique index for every row of data read from the source.  The index will be incremented on every execute.  The starting value is determined by the Index Start Value property.

  • Index Starting value

The starting value for the index if the Create Index property is enabled.

  • Index Field

If the Create Index property is disabled, select a field from the data source to use as the index field.  Indexes do not have to be unique.

Select TAB

Select the fields you wish to import from the specified data set and set the data types. Five data types are supported and interpreted as either Discrete or Continuous when read:

  • String (S) - Discrete

  • Double (D) - Continuous

  • Integer (I) - Continuous or Discrete (Conversion allowed)

  • Timestamp (T) - Timestamp or Discrete (Conversion allowed)

  • Quality (Q) - Discrete or Continuous (Conversion allowed)
