Configuring the Feedback block

The Output port for the Feedback block carries all the fields from the regular Input port as well as a 'feedback' fields with values derived from the values on the Feedback input port.

The block configuration determines how feedback fields on the Output port map to fields on the Feedback input port.

NOTE: You must map at least one field on the Output port to a field on the Feedback input port.

To configure the Feedback block:

  1. Open the Feedback block property page by either double-clicking on the block or right-click on the block and selecting Block Properties.

    • The table on the left-hand side lists the fields from the Feedback input port that are available for mapping.

    • The table on the right-hand side lists created feedback fields on the Output port. These fields can be mapped to fields on the Feedback input port. Initially, this list is empty.

    • You can filter entries in these two tables on any of the columns.

  2. Perform whichever combination of the following operations is needed:

  3. Select OK to apply the configuration changes or select Cancel to undo the configuration changes you have made.

Adding a feedback field on the Output port

If you want to add a feedback field:

  1. In the Feedback Field section of the property page, specify the output field's Name, Data Type, Timestamp, Initial Quality, and Initial Value.
    • If you set a feedback field's Timestamp to Use input field

      • You will not be able to specify an Initial Quality for that field. The initial quality used is Bad.

      • You will not be able to specify an Initial Value for that field. The initial value used is 0.0.

      • The timestamps used for subsequent executions are those coming in from the mapped field.

    • If you set a feedback field's Timestamp to Use execute time:

      • The timestamp used (for every execute) is the execute time of the block.

    • If you are setting a Data Type for the output field:

      • Use the same type as that of the field you will be mapping to it.

  2. Select the Add button to add the field to the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side.

This will create a feedback field in the table on the right-hand side. The entry in the Mapped Field column for the new feedback field will initially be empty. You will need to map the field to an available field from the Feedback input field.

Removing one or more feedback fields from the Output port

If you want to remove one or more of the feedback fields listed in the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side:

  1. In the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side, select all the feedback fields you wish to remove.
  2. Select the Delete button to remove the field(s) from the table.
  3. If a removed field was mapped, removing it also unmaps the field and the previously mapped field on the Feedback input port is restored to the table of available fields on the left-hand side.

Map a feedback field on the output port to an available field on the Feedback input port

If you want to map one of the created feedback fields to one of the available fields from the Feedback input port:

  1. In the table of available fields on the left-hand side, select the field you want to map to the created feedback field.

  2. In the table on the right-hand side, select the created feedback field you want to use.

  3. Select the > button between the table of available fields on the left-hand side and the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side.

This removes the field from the table of available fields on the left-hand side, and populates the Mapped Field column for the feedback field in the table on the right-hand side with the name of the mapped field.

Unmapping a mapped field from a feedback field on the output port

If you want to unmap one of the fields mapped to a feedback field listed in the table on the right-hand side:

  1. In the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side, select the Mapped Field you want to unmap.

  2. Select the < button between the table of available fields on the left-hand side and the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side.

This unmaps the field from the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side and restores it to the table of available fields on the left-hand side. It leaves the feedback field with no Mapped Field.

Unmapping all mapped fields from the feedback fields

If you want to unmap all the Mapped Fields listed in the table on the right-hand side:

  1. Select the << button between the table of available fields on the left-hand side and the table of feedback fields on the right-hand side.

This unmaps all the fields from the table on the right-hand side and restores them to the table of available fields on the left-hand side. It leaves the feedback fields with no Mapped Fields.
