Configuring the Limiter block

To open the block property page (the page on which the block configuration is specified), either double click on the block or right-click on the block and select Block Properties.  The diagram below shows the pop-up screen that will be displayed.

  • Defining lower and upper limits: To enter a limit value, simply double click on the box (in the Lower Limit or Upper Limit column for a given tag) and enter the appropriate value. Note: you may only specify values here.  Should you wish to use a parameter as a field limit, you must use the Limit mappings tab to map a parameter field to a field limit.
  • Enable Limiting: Clipping may be enabled or disabled by toggling the option on or off, in the Enable Limiting box. Thus if lower limit clipping is disabled and an upper limit is specified, the tag can have any value below the upper limit value. The [Apply to All] button is available to apply the same configuration to all the input fields.
  • Output field quality: Use the drop-down boxes to select whether the Quality should remain Unchanged or become Bad if the field value falls outside of the defined limits.  Use the [Apply to All] button to apply the same quality setting to all the output fields.

  • Output Field Postfix: A PostFix may be added to the field name to distinguish the clipped value from the raw value. Use the [Apply to All] button to apply the same postfix to all the output fields.

Notes:

  • While online, should the lower limit exceed the upper limit, no clipping occurs and the output quality is set to bad. An entry is written to the log stating that the lower limit exceeded the upper limit.
  • If a parameter field is used as a limit, and the parameter field's quality is bad, then no clipping occurs until the quality returns to good.

Limit mappings tab:

  • The High and Low limit field lists provide the user with lists of fields currently contained in the High and Low limit parameter ports respectively.  Should any of these ports be disconnected, the relative field list will be disabled, along with the buttons/controls for manipulating the list.  In order to map a parameter field as a limit value, simply select a field from the list of Low/High limit fields, select an input field, and click the > or < button, depending on your selection. The >> and << will map or unmap the selected parameter field onto all the selected input fields.  Conversely, using the >> or << buttons to unmap fields, will unmap all mapped parameter fields for the given limit, "High, or Low" and enter the default limit as specified in the High/Low limits input boxes located at the bottom of the sheet.

  • To apply a particular upper or lower limit value to all the input fields, enter a value in the Limit Values box for either the Lower or Upper limit and click on the Apply to All button.
