Connecting to a SQL database

In this section we demonstrate how to configure the Data Link when connecting to a SQL database.

To configure the datalink when connecting to a SQL DB

  1. On the Data Link property page, you select:

For Wonderware Historian: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

For SQL Server:  Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

For Proficy Historian: Proficy Historian OLE DB Provider

  2. Three things need to be entered on this page,

  • the server name - select the name from the drop-down list of running SQL servers that the Proficy CSense machine can see,

  • the authentication information that will allow the computer to log on to that server - if Windows NT integrated security is selected, your account must have access rights on the server that you selected.  If a specific name and password is selected then the authentication is through a user name and password specified in SQL; check the Blank password box if no password is used else check the Allow saving password box.

  • the name of the database on that server, if the first option is selected, then select the name from the drop-down list of databases that you are allowed to access.  Alternatively, if the Attach a database file as a database name: radio button is selected,  specify a name for the database and attach a database file (a .mdf file)

  1. Click on Test connection, if the page is configured correctly a window will pop-up stating Test connection succeeded.

  2. Click on OK to close the window, then click on OK on the Data Link Property page to save the changes
