User block

User blocks contain a reference to an external file called a CUB file. These files are pre-configured blueprints and/or superblocks that have been created according to specific requirements, and are saved as .cub files.

Convenience of a user block

User blocks serve as "wrappers" for the blueprint functionality contained. No data sources or sinks are attached. This makes it convenient to reuse the same functionality in different blueprints, without having to configure the functionality time and time again.

The functionality of a user block can be kept confidential by password protecting the block. Highlight the block > right click> and Set Password.

When changing the functionality of user blocks, edit the blueprint according to your new requirements. On saving, the new functionality does not replace that of the current user block, rather a new user block needs to be saved. (It is then necessary to make individual changes for each blueprint using the user block.)

Creating a user block

When a user block is created, a folder containing the .cub file is automatically generated in the following directories:

  • For Windows XP, Windows Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Proficy CSense

  • For newer versions of Windows (including Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2): C:\ProgramData\Proficy CSense

To add the block to the user or template palette, simply right click and select the relevant instruction. If you are sent a user block from someone else, then first save the file in the folder in the above directories, before opening it in Architect. On opening, the block will automatically populate the User palette.

User block palette

The user block palette in the Architect refers to a special block palette that displays all the user blocks that have been added to the palette.  The palette itself actually refers to a folder on the hard drive where all the .cub files are stored.  These storage folders are found in the following directories:

  • For Windows XP, Windows Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Proficy CSense

  • For newer versions of Windows (including Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2): C:\ProgramData\Proficy CSense
