About Search

Search functionality allows you to search for asset or tag instances using search criteria or modifiers.

You can use Search to locate asset or tag instances using search criteria and/or search modifiers.

Asset instances are added to Predix Essentials during ingestion by the tenant administrator. Tag instances are added to a selected asset instance by you. You can use Search to locate asset or tag instances by the type of data provided. For instance, you can find a tag instance by its asset context.

Predix Essentials Search allows you to search, select and configure a specific asset or tag instance.

The Search results table lists the first 250 instances. Use the scroll bar to access additional instances.

Tip: You can load your tenant's custom Asset Instance or Tag Instance landing page, replacing the Predix Essentials Asset Instance or Tag Instance landing page in the results section of the Search module. Your tenant administrator must configure through API to replace one or both of the landing pages.

Access an Asset or Tag Instance Via Search

Search allows you to use a text string or modifier to find an asset or tag instance.

About This Task

Search categorizes asset and tag instances to narrow your search. Use the Search Type drop-down list box, or enter search criteria or modifiers to search the Search results table for specific instances. Available instance types are:

Asset Instances
Tag Instances

Note: The Search results table lists the first 250 entries. Use the scroll bar to access additional groups.

When you enter search criteria, the first 250 matching entries for any column in the Search results table are displayed. Use modifiers to construct queries, narrowing your search.

Search results display using a combination of search filters and on the selection of the group type selected from the drop-down list box. The following columns are displayed in the Search results table:

Use three or more characters in your search text to avoid time-outs. You can use multiple modifiers when searching. When you perform the search with multiple query options or fewer search characters, your search scope is widened leading to slower result retrieval.

Note: If you want to search an asset or tag with the value that contains ,(comma), :(colon), or *(asterisk), you can search it only via wild card.

For example: If you want to search an asset (that is, Turbine,test*123=0), you can search it as name=Turbine*. The assets starting with Turbine appears in the search result.

Procedure

In the module navigation menu, navigate to Assets > Search.
Optional: Select Asset Instances or Tag Instances from the Search Type drop-down list box to narrow the list to a specific type.

To refine your search results, use the following search modifiers:


Search Modifiers	Description
name: tag or asset instance display name	Enter a partial or full display name of an asset or tag in the Search box, such as `name:Hydro Turbine`. Press `Enter` to activate string in the Search box.
description: text describing an asset or tag	Enter a partial or full description of an asset or tag in the Search box, such as `description:output asset`. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
sourceKey: unique identifier	Enter a partial or full source key for a tag or asset instance in the Search box. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
inContext: asset context	In the Search box, enter `inContext:<full name of an asset or tag>`. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
ofClass: name of the classification	In the Search box, enter `ofClass:<full classification name>`. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
type: uri of the classification	In the Search box, enter `type:<full URI>` for an asset tag or classification. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
<attributeName>: attribute value	In the Search box, enter the attribute name followed by a colon and the fully specified value. (for example, enter `manufacturer:GE` or `uom:ft`). Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.
parent: uri of the parent asset	In the Search box, enter `parent:<full URI>` for an asset. Press `Enter` to activate the string in the Search box.

If no results are found, the message "No Results Found" is displayed. If the search fails, the message "Data failed to load" appears.

Tip:

When using modifiers, you must match the modifier value exactly to get a result.
When searching for a reserved attribute, you must use the fieldName to get a result. Select Search.
The instance options in the Search results table narrow according to your criteria.
