About the Troubleshoot Option for Historian

Using the Troubleshoot option for Historian in Configuration Hub, you can access log files of all the applicable Historian components such as Collectors, Proficy Historian Kafka Connect instances, data archivers, and more from a single place.

Event Log Files

The event log files record data related to all events, warnings, and modifications occurring within Historian components, such as server services, collectors, and web clients, enabling you to troubleshoot issues. The purpose of remotely accessing the log files is to efficiently monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot the Historian server and collectors.

Each log file has a maximum size of 10 MB. When a log file reaches its capacity, a new log file is created for the same service. You can access the log files remotely from the Configuration Hub plugin for Historian, using the Troubleshoot option. By default, log files are stored in a location specified during the installation of the component. The file extension for log files is .log or .txt.

Configuration Log Files

The configuration log files (also called .shw files) record the system configuration data related to the components. Whenever changes are made to the configurations, a new .shw file is generated to reflect these updates for a component. The system overwrites the first .shw file with each new version, maintaining a maximum of three shw files per component. By default, the shw files are stored in a location specified during the installation of the component. The file extension for shw files is .shw.
