Access Variables

About this task

Using the Route Editor, you can configure variables to be collected during the execution of the operation by an operator.

Procedure

  1. Access the route for which you want to configure variables.
  2. Select Variables.
A list of variables associated with operation(s) appears. The following table provides information on each column in the table.
    Column Description
SEQ Determines the order in which variables appear in operator apps during data entry. A SEQ of 1 will appear at the top.
IDENTIFIER A read only field that defines additional identification for a variable.
GROUP TITLE Allows variables to be grouped under a common title/header.
VARIABLE NAME The name of the variable.
    STATUS The current variable status:
    • Active: Variable is active and data entry is allowed.
    • Inactive: Variable has been archived and cannot be added to new data entry plans. Data entry is not allowed.
      Note:
To allow data entry for inactive variables, set the following site parameter to 1:

Allow Test Entry for Inactive Variable

For additional assistance, contact your system administrator.

RECORD TOOL A read only flag that requires tool usage on a variable. Allows tool selection.
    Note:
Record Tool flag can only be set in the Plant Applications Administrator during variable definition.
TOOL Specifies the tool(s) to be used for capturing variable data. At least one tool is required to release a route.
CONFORMANCE A read only flag that defines a variable as conforming. Automatically enables the mandatory flag but can be manually turned off.
    Note:
The conformance flag can only be set in the Plant Applications Administrator during variable definition.
MANDATORY Makes a variable mandatory and a value is required to complete an operation.
SPECIFICATION STRATEGY Variable specification retrieval strategy. It offers the following options:
    • Route Defined: Utilizes the route release date to retrieve variable specifications.
    • Latest Specification: Utilizes the current time to retrieve variable specifications.
LOWER ENTRY Specifies the lower entry limit.
LOWER REJECT Specifies the lower reject limit.
LOWER WARNING Specifies the lower warning limit.
LOWER USER Specifies the lower user limit.
    TARGET Specifies the target value.
UPPER USER Specifies the upper user limit.
UPPER WARNING Specifies the upper warning limit.
UPPER REJECT Specifies the upper reject limit.
UPPER ENTRY Specifies the upper entry limit.
TEST FREQUENCY Specifies the frequency of specification limits testing.
ESIGNATURE LEVEL Specifies the E-Signature level.
LOWER CONTROL Specifies the lower control limit.
TARGET CONTROL Specifies the target control limit.
UPPER CONTROL Specifies the upper control limit.
RESOURCE LINE Specifies the production line on which the variable unit is defined. This field is blank for material variables.
RESOURCE ENTITY Resource entity of the variable:
    • Work Unit: The name of the unit on which the variable is defined.
    • Material: The name of the material the variable is based on.
DATA SOURCE Data Source of the variable:
    • Other: For work unit variables.
    • Autolog: For material variables.
