The ten member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) contracted with GE Energy Consulting to study opportunities to enhance energy connectivity and market integration.

After a more than year-long study, GE EC helped craft a power grid master plan for the realization of a multilateral power trading setup in the region to achieve energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability for all.

India needed to determine the commercial feasibility of adding an integrated wind, solar, and energy storage (IWSES) plant with a combined generation capacity of more than 1200 MWe. Factors include efficient use of existing grid infrastructure and renewable intermittency and variability.

To meet India’s goal of increasing its renewable capacity to 175 GW, GE EC created a blueprint for developing the IWSES’ financial and technical elements, laying out the business case to make the IWSES economically viable.

Recron—one of the far east’s largest integrated polyester and textile producers—had relay coordination issues at its two manufacturing plants in Malaysia due to aging electrical systems. 

As a result of the study GE EC conducted at Recron’s Nilai and Melaka plants, short circuit violations were identified in the plants’ existing switchgears. Settings were recommended for the existing relays to improve coordination. 

Following decades of international sanctions, Myanmar needed to build out infrastructure to achieve economic growth. The government needed to create and implement an electric power system master plan and educate power system engineers on how to conduct detailed generation, transmission, and distribution planning and analysis.

GE EC performed an electricity planning study to help create a practical implementation roadmap to develop Myanmar’s electric power system and outline how it can evolve into a sustainable economic growth driver. It found that standardized grid codes can be adopted to interconnect large and small plants.
