Teaching a group of young girls to extract DNA from fruit — over videoconference, due to the pandemic — wasn’t in Miguel Angel Herranz del Pino’s job description. But the field operation process manager at GE Vernova in Madrid, Spain, stepped in two years ago when a co-worker was unable to take the class during the site’s first-ever STEAM Girls Spain Summer Camp. This year, Herranz del Pino was a camp counselor again, this time in person. If wrangling 10-year-old girls was challenging over Zoom, doing it live was even harder — but far more rewarding.

PLUTO to the Rescue: Agile Robot Takes Aim at the World’s Leaky Pipelines

What does the name Pluto conjure? Fearsome god of the underworld or happy cartoon dog? For engineers at GE Vernova Advanced Research, it seems to be a little of both: They’ve bestowed the famous name on a self-crawling, money-saving, epoxy-spraying robot that is designed to descend into and enter aging pipelines and cheerfully repair them from the inside. Just a bit bigger than a Yorkshire terrier, PLUTO is soon expected to start scratching away at one of the world’s most intractable emissions challenges: methane leakage.

GE Vernova shares solutions to further strengthen the continent’s power sector at Africa Energy Forum 2024

5 min read

BARCELONA, Spain (June 19, 2024) - As countries across Africa continue addressing their respective energy challenges, requiring diverse solutions for unique situations, GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) remains committed to keep electrifying and decarbonizing the continent and will be a lead sponsor of the Africa Energy Forum taking place in Barcelona, Spain from June 25 - 28, under the theme Energy Systems of the Future – Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals. The event brings together the continent’s key stakeholders, investors, and future leaders, covering vital areas such as project developments, technology innovations, and cross-sector opportunities and collaborations.

A recent report reveals that about 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa – up to 50% of the region’s population – do not have access to electricity. Moreover, power demand is forecasted to grow further by about 3% in 2024, emphasizing the need to balance energy transition aspirations with electricity availability. GE Vernova’s team of industry experts plan to exchange ideas on and share best practices to accelerate the path to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for the continent at several sessions at the Africa Energy Forum, including: Tackling Grid Challenges to Improve Energy Systems; The African Gas Conundrum: Is it a Transitional Enabler or Not?; Investing in Senegal: A World Class Energy Partner; and Leveraging New Technologies to Lower Emissions and Promote Balance Across Energy.

Joseph Anis, President & CEO of Europe, Middle East & Africa for Gas Power at GE Vernova says: “Progress is indelibly linked to uninterrupted power supply in modern society. Investing in reliable and affordable electricity generation is as critical as advancing lower carbon power to support health, connectivity, safety, security, and improved quality of life. Accelerating Africa’s energy transition efforts will require cross-sector collaboration among the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors; the strategic deployment of multiple energy sources, including renewables and gas power; and investments in the grid together with software solutions. These steps can enable substantive reductions in emissions quickly and at scale, while advancing the technologies for low or near-zero carbon power generation and helping to meet the continent’s growing energy needs.”

GE Vernova spun-off from GE (NYSE: GE) and began trading as an independent company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on April 2, 2024. With approximately 55,000 wind turbines and 7,000 gas turbines globally, the company's technology base helps generate about 25% of the world's electricity and has a meaningful role to play in the energy transition. In Africa, GE Vernova-built technologies comprise up to 40% of installed power generation capacity. The company serves up to 260 customers across the continent and has a legacy of over 120 years of presence in Africa, supporting the development of critical infrastructure. It works across the electricity value chain on the continent, from generation through various power sources including wind, hydro, gas, and more, to providing transmission, distribution, and software solutions.

In 2009, the United States Department of Energy was seeking a dose of radical thinking. Early that year, its newly created Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) issued an open call for “the most revolutionary energy technologies.” If ARPA-E officials were expecting a steady trickle of ideas from business, academia, and research laboratories, they were wrong. They’d just opened the floodgates.

GE Vernova celebrates Earth Week in Algeria and around the World

5 min read
  • Tree planting at power plants in Algeria underlines GE Vernova’s commitment to long-term environmental sustainability and a lower-carbon future

ALGIERS, Algeria (April 27, 2024) – GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) employees joined hands with customer teams to plant 150 trees at 10 power generation facilities across Algeria including Terga, Oumache, and Naama Combined Cycle Power Plants, among others. The activities were held in support of Earth Day. The tree planting was symbolic of not only team spirit and collaboration, but also the dedication of the participants to act as environmental custodians committed to protecting the planet for generations to come.

While Earth Day is observed on April 22, GE Vernova’s staff of more than 80,000 people extended the celebrations during April 20 – 27 not only in Algeria but also at scores of other sites around the world. The activities included community volunteer events such as park and beach clean-up drives, as well as daily acts of sustainability at home and the workplace, such as identifying and reducing wasteful energy use, decreasing consumption of single-use plastics, walking or cycling instead of driving, eating local produce, and much more. The initiatives demonstrate the significance GE Vernova places on environmental sustainability as it continues to lead the energy transition towards a lower-carbon future. The week’s activities also directly tied to GE Vernova’s ambitious target to reach carbon neutral operations for Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

GE Vernova spun-off from GE (NYSE: GE) and began trading as an independent company on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on April 2, 2024. With approximately 55,000 wind turbines and 7,000 gas turbines, GE Vernova's technology base helps generate about 30% of the world's electricity and has a meaningful role to play in the energy transition.

Joseph Anis, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), said, “Celebrating Earth Day through a week of service to our planet and communities is an annual tradition at GE Vernova. This year’s activities in observance of Earth Day were particularly special for us as they were our first as an independent company. We were honored to collaborate with our customers across Algeria to undertake tree planting drives, helping to both raise awareness on environmental issues today, and leave a legacy for tomorrow.”

GE Vernova has a strong history of contributing to the development of Algeria’s energy sector by providing power generation, transmission, distribution, and digital solutions. It employs over 300 people in Algeria and its investments in the country include GE Algeria Turbines (GEAT) – a joint venture with Sonelgaz that has manufactured skids and turbine auxiliaries, as well as rolled out gas turbines, steam turbines, and control systems. Sonelgaz and GE Vernova recently also announced the planned expansion of existing capabilities at GEAT to develop grid solutions, further demonstrating a shared commitment to accelerate sustainable energy development, localize industrial capabilities, and support national economic growth goals.

Egalite femmes-hommes : résultats 2023 chez GE en France

2 min read
