APM finds fault that might have otherwise gone unnoticed

Unnoticed increase in condensate pump motor temperature

"One of GVH’s nuclear customers discovered that the temperature of one of its condensate pump motors increased from 222°F to 237°F (106°C to 114°C). Plant personnel were unaware of the increase because it was below the control room’s alarm levels. GVH APM software revealed that a cooling fan had failed."

 

Engineers successfully replaced the malfunctioning cooling fan and reset the breaker. GVH APM data values confirmed that actual temperatures had returned to expected levels. If this issue could not be resolved, temperatures would have risen until they caused the pump to shut down.
