Celebrating a Century of Innovation at GE’s Bushing Factory in Italy

On May 12, 2023, GE’s bushing factory known as Passoni & Villa celebrated 100 years of innovation! For more than a century, the factory has been recognized for its excellence, quality, and its team’s expertise in high voltage equipment. The bushings manufactured onsite support AC and DC transformers, substations, and generator applications worldwide, having equipped DC projects such as the Italy-Montenegro Link, the DolWin 3 project in North Europe, and the Lower Churchill Project in Canada.

Successful sail-away and installation of GE’s electrical substation for France’s Saint Nazaire offshore wind farm

Major milestone achieved! The first electrical offshore substation (OSS) in France successfully sailed away from St Nazaire in France and was installed on its jacket 12 km from the coast, on August 18th. The sheer size of this electrical substation is impressive - with its total weight approximately equivalent to the London Eye, (also known as the London Millennium Wheel), or about 280 adult African elephants - imagine that!

GE wins multiple orders of high-voltage power transformers and reactors from India’s largest transmission utility

  • GE wins multiple orders of 765 kV transformers and reactors from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL)
  • GE will produce 45 units of 765 kV transformers and reactors for the new substations to be set up in the Indian state of Rajasthan by PGCIL, for evacuating 8.1 gigawatt (GW) of green power from the state’s solar energy zones
  • The project’s transformers and reactors will be supplied by GE's Grid Solutions’ state-of-the-art power transformer manufacturing facility in Vadodara, India

  • GE demonstrates ongoing role as an industry leader in STATCOM and Static Var Compensator (SVC) technology with key wins in South America, the United Kingdom and the Middle East
  • These wins reinforce our customers’ confidence in GE’s Reactive Power Compensation technologies and our execution capability to deliver complex projects within the context of the energy transition

GE’s Grid Automation team delivers on schedule the energization of Ia Le 1 substation in Vietnam

GE’s Grid Solutions’ Grid Automation division together with Advance Information Technologies (AIT) Corporation - an EPC contractor and system integrator for Grid Automation solutions in Vietnam - has successfully energized the Ia Le 1 substation in Gia Lai province in Vietnam, sticking to a tight 12-month schedule, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GE Completes One of Power Industry’s Largest Reactive Power Upgrades with 100% Reliability

  • GE has completed the largest Static Var Compensator (SVC) upgrade project for two of Norway transmission system operator Statnett’s substations
  • The trial run for both substations was executed without a single interruption of service, and the stations have continued their operation into commercial service
  • GE provides leading technological solutions to ever-evolving grid challenges, including the integration of more and more renewable energy, through successful implementation of its new “SmoothSine” modularized control software for SVC and STATCOM

GE’s 245 kV 63 kA Dead Tank Circuit-Breaker Enhanced With Independent Pole Operation

GE’s 245 kV Dead Tank Circuit Breaker, model DT1-245P-63-F3, has been enhanced with optional independent pole operation (IPO) with a spring-spring-operated mechanism per phase. This option for single pole operation is on top of the existing three-pole gang operated offering.

This latest enhancement further increases the capabilities of this reliable high voltage dead-tank circuit-breaker performing at 245 kV and 63 kA without transient recovery voltage (TRV) capacitors for short line faults.

GE’s 1st-of-its-kind digital HYpact switchgear for electrical grids makes the unpredictable more predictable

  • The digital HYpact switchgear—GE’s hybrid compact switchgear assembly—is the first of its kind delivered to customer DB Energie GmbH under the EU-funded IN2STEMPO project
  • Technologies like this from GE Grid Solutions are helping the customer monitor their grid status, reduce downtime, and lower the carbon footprint at a decades-old German train station
  • GE’s HYpact module includes its proven circuit breaker technology, known for its reliability
