Nobody disputes the role that natural gas power plants play in electrifying the planet. A typical plant can reliably generate hundreds of megawatts (MW) of electricity within a few minutes of turbine ignition, keeping the lights on in hundreds of thousands of households.

With net zero deadlines inching closer, the United Kingdom is in a race to ensure it has the capacity to generate enough electricity to keep the lights on throughout the country — while meeting its own legally binding mandates for carbon reductions.
