GE Vernova chosen to provide integrated BESS solution for large-scale storage project in Australia

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 16, 2024)– GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has been chosen by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners (Quinbrook) as the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integration provider for the second stage, comprising 250 MW/1,000 MWh of storage, of their Supernode BESS project in Queensland, Australia.

Quinbrook’s Supernode project, involves the creation of a BESS and data center complex in Queensland. Once complete, the 750 MW (2–4 Hour) BESS site is expected to be one of the largest battery storage installations in the Australian national electricity market. Construction of this 250 MW/1,000MWh battery storage system is the second stage of a proposed three-stage project. In early 2024, GE Vernova was also awarded the contract for BESS integration for Stage 1 of the project comprising 250 MW/500 MWh, which is already underway.

GE Vernova launches 2000 Vdc utility-scale solar inverter with multi-megawatt pilot in North America

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (September 11, 2024) – GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) today announced the launch of its new 6 MVA, 2000-volt direct current utility-scale inverter, with a multi-megawatt pilot installation in North America. This initiative is aimed at further reducing solar energy costs and accelerating the transition to renewable energy and decarbonization.

A History of Innovation in Solar Inverters
In 2012, GE Vernova was the first to introduce the 1500 Vdc inverter to the market, helping customers reduce the cost of renewable energy through more efficient solar farm layouts. Now, with the 2000 Vdc architecture, the company is once again leading the way by further reducing the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) for solar PV installations. The inverter can boost power output by 30% within the same footprint, reducing costs and improving scalability for solar farms.

Solar inverters are key components of photovoltaic (PV) plants. The technology converts DC power produced by solar panels to AC power, which is then fed into the main grid. The FLEXINVERTER 2000 Vdc (also known as FLEXINVERTER 2 kVdc) is the latest addition to GE Vernova’s FLEXINVERTER portfolio.

Collaborating for a Renewable Future
GE Vernova’s FLEXINVERTER 2000 Vdc is set to debut in a multi-megawatt solar park as a pilot installation in North America, expected to be operational by Q1 2025. The company is collaborating with Shoals Technologies Group™ and an industry PV module supplier on this project. GE Vernova will provide the 2000 Vdc inverter for the solar park, while Shoals Technologies will supply the electrical balance of system solutions. The other collaborating supplier will provide the PV modules.

(NYSE: GEV) today announced the launch of its advanced containerized solution for Battery Enabled Energy Storage (BESS) - the RESTORE DC Block - which offers enhanced safety, efficiency, flexibility, and long-term performance. With a capacity of 5MWh and enhanced duration range of 2-8 hours, the solution offers the ability to support multiple grid use cases for utility-scale renewable and energy storage projects.

RESTORE DC Block is a core component of GE Vernova’s FLEXRESERVOIR solution - an integrated system combining battery storage, power electronics, and advanced controls - that is designed to support seamless integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. By storing surplus energy during periods of high generation and releasing it when demand peaks, it ensures a more reliable and efficient grid.

GE Vernova signs contract for Kalyon PV’s 157 MW solar project to support decarbonization of the energy sector in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey (May 28, 2024) - GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) today announced it has signed a contract with Kalyon PV to supply its FLEXINVERTERTM solar power station, as well as design and engineering services, to Kalyon PV in Viranşehir, Turkey. Inogen, GE Vernova’s regional solutions provider, will be in charge of the construction and installation of the solar power station.

GE Vernova’s solar power station is expected to power Kalyon Enerji’s 157 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaics (PV) factory, making Kalyon Enerji one of the first companies in Turkey to produce solar panels using 100% renewable electricity when commissioned.

With 2.5 GWp/1.9 GWe of combined solar power capacity in Turkey, including commissioned and ongoing projects, GE Vernova’s FLEXINVERTERTM technology is playing a pivotal role in the development of Turkey’s solar industry.

This collaboration builds upon an existing relationship, leveraging the success of Kalyon Enerji’s 1,347 MWp/1,000 MWe Karapinar solar power plant in the Konya Karapinar province, which deployed GE Vernova's FLEXINVERTERTM solar technology. Commissioned in 2023, the Karapinar facility is Turkey’s largest single source of solar power to date. The project was part of the first Turkish solar YEKA GES tender launched in 2017 by the Turkish Ministry of Energy under the Renewable Energy Resources Zones (YEKA) program that streamlines the development of large-scale solar and wind farms.

Turkey's rapid expansion of its renewable energy sector, driven by a growing electricity demand and a commitment to reducing carbon emissions, positions solar power as a key driver of this growth. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Turkey aims to commission an impressive 10 GW of solar capacity between 2017 and 2027, with projections indicating a surge of approximately 500% to 52.9 GW by 2035. 1

Additionally, GE Vernova is uniquely positioned to deploy its Battery Energy Storage Solution FLEXRESERVOIRTM coupled with financing to support Turkey’s next phase of renewable energy projects with storage.

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business to supply integrated full electric propulsion systems for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s Multi-Role Combat Vessel program

United Kingdom: March 18, 2024 - GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business has been awarded a contract by Singapore shipbuilder ST Engineering Marine Limited to supply its Ship’s Electric Grid with Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) equipment for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s six-ship Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) program.

The six MRCVs will be the first IFEP-powered vessels for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and will replace its fleet of mechanical drive Victory-class missile corvettes, which have been in service since 1989. Delivery of the electric propulsion systems for the new ships is planned over the next 10 years.

GE Vernova’s Ship’s Electric Grid delivers the electrical power required by the ship’s propulsion, and energizes its operational and mission systems, such as radar and communications. With the ability to share electric power to any load on the ship’s power network, the system is more energy-efficient and cost-effective to operate than a conventional mechanical drive configuration.

GE Vernova’s Ship’s Electric Grid includes all generators, medium-voltage switchboards, transformers, propulsion variable frequency drives (VFDs), electric propulsion motors, thruster motors, soft starters, a shore power connection, power management system (PMS), and the propulsion control system (PCS).

The modular platform design of the RSN’s new MRCVs allows for different naval missions requiring electric power. This includes the ability to host unmanned air and surface vehicles, which will expand the area of each vessel’s surveillance capability.

Andy Cooper, General Manager at GE Vernova’s Power Conversion UK business, said: “Power Conversion is pleased to equip the RSN’s new MRCVs with electric power. Like so many other navies around the world, the RSN is adopting an electric ship configuration as an enabler for increased levels of power and energy-efficiency. Being equipped with an electric grid allows a ship the ability to share every bit of available power throughout the vessel, strengthening its energy surety and even helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions”.

With deep expertise in marine and naval performance requirements, GE Vernova’s Power Conversion UK center of excellence (COE) will be responsible for the design, systems engineering, manufacturing and testing of the equipment. The execution of the project will be supported by the Power Conversion Asia team based in Singapore, who will oversee project engineering, project management, commissioning and sea trials.

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business powers the majority of the UK Royal Navy’s large vessel fleet, including Queen Elizabeth Class, Type 45 and Type 26 vessels, as well as many other global naval programs.
