B20 South Africa: GE Vernova advances global energy security and affordability; supports historic West African grid synchronization

6 min read
  • Participating in the B20 Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, GE Vernova outlines priorities to help deliver a more affordable, reliable, sustainable, and secure energy future.

  • West African Power Pool (WAPP) completes first full regional grid synchronization trial, supported by GE Vernova’s grid software and consulting services expertise.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (November 20, 2025) – GE Vernova, Inc. (NYSE: GEV) is participating at B20 South Africa as part of the Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force to help advance practical solutions that scale up more affordable, reliable, sustainable, and secure energy, and the grid infrastructure to support it. Alongside B20 participation, the company is highlighting a significant regional integration milestone achieved by the West African Power Pool (WAPP), supported by GE Vernova: WAPP conducted its first full regional electric system synchronization, unifying grid operations across 15 West African countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Mauritania. WAPP is a specialized agency of Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) in charge of promoting and developing power generation and transmission infrastructure, as well as coordinating power exchange among the ECOWAS member states.

“At this moment, the B20 is a critical avenue to bring the private sector together with the commitments of the public sector to help lift up people through access to sustainable energy - from gas to renewables and a stronger grid - building a stronger future for all. As a member of the Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, GE Vernova is advancing practical, context specific solutions to accelerate a just and inclusive transition. And in West Africa, WAPP’s historic electric system synchronization shows what collaboration and technology can deliver,” said Roger Martella, Chief Corporate Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer, GE Vernova.

The electric system synchronization offers several advantages, including enhanced accessibility for countries to tap regional capacity to reduce outages and improve reliability, expand cross-border electricity trading, and better integrate renewables. Building on last year’s deployment of GE Vernova’s GridOS® orchestration software at WAPP’s Information and Coordination Centre (ICC) in Abomey-Calavi, Benin—the centralized command center for the ECOWAS interconnected grid—GridOS tools support dispatch, stability, and energy-flow forecasting across the network, giving operators real-time visibility to monitor, analyze, and optimize power flows. During the synchronization, GE Vernova's GridOS® Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) tracked grid dynamics in near real time, while GE Vernova’s Consulting Services provided the technical foundation through Power System Stabilizer (PSS) tuning, governor field testing and settings updates, and coordination of the WAPP network synchronization. GE Vernova’s Grid Automation telecom solution provided the communications backbone linking the ICC to national dispatch centers across West Africa, enabling coordinated regional operations and accurate, real-time data transfer down to the substation level for synchronization decisions. This trial confirms multiple national transmission system operators can operate reliably under ICC coordination and paves the way for an open regional electricity market to enhance cross-border power exchange across West Africa. This initial synchronization was a trial, with full permanent synchronization targeted for 2026.

At B20 South Africa, GE Vernova is also highlighting talent and skills as critical enablers of the transition. Globally, the GE Vernova Foundation is investing in technical and vocational pathways with a goal to reach 30,000 learners by 2030. In Johannesburg, the Next Engineers program has reached nearly 4,100 learners to date and awarded US$36,000 in scholarships to qualifying graduates. Complementing these efforts, GE Vernova awarded US$83,000 in scholarships to 10 South African graduates through its External Bursary Program, and since 2020 has provided comprehensive bursaries totaling US$7.3 million (R128.5 million) to more than 900 beneficiaries nationwide.

GE Vernova also recently convened the first Mendoza Collective Action Summit, bringing together public, private, and academic leaders to expand access to electricity in underserved communities and establishing the Mendoza Principles to guide future collaboration. “The global efforts underway to electrify the planet should enable all people to share in the benefits of affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy - and the economic opportunity it unlocks,” added Roger.

GE Vernova Charts a Path to a Reliable, Low-Carbon Energy Future for Germany

3 min read
  • New study/white paper identifies four priorities to align investment in generation, grid, and flexibility.

Berlin, 7 November 2025 - GE Vernova today offered solutions on how Germany can maintain a secure, affordable, and low-carbon electricity supply through 2035, following the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy’s (BMWE) latest Energiewende Monitoring Report and accompanying 10-Point Plan.

The company’s new white paper finds that Germany’s energy transition challenges such as renewable curtailment, grid congestion, and rising system costs cannot be solved by any single technology. Instead, they require an integrated system planning approach that links demand growth, renewable expansion, grid build-out, and dispatchable capacity into one coordinated framework.

“The Monitoring Report gets it right: Germany will need additional dispatchable capacity,” said Markus Becker, Executive Director, System Economics, GE Vernova’s Consulting Services. “The scale and timing, however, depend on how quickly flexibility, grid expansion, and demand evolve together. The answer is not one variable, it is how they work in concert.”

Building on this analysis, GE Vernova outlines four priorities for policymakers and planners as Germany implements the findings of the BMWE report:

  • Accelerate integrated system planning to align decisions on generation, transmission, and flexibility investments, ensuring reliability at the lowest total cost.
  • Scale flexibility and storage by expanding battery, demand-side, and digital solutions that make electricity demand an active contributor to system balance and help reduce renewable curtailment.
  • Deploy modern, efficient gas generation alongside technology-neutral decarbonization solutions, providing fast-response backup for renewables while enabling future decarbonization of thermal assets.
  • Advance market design for flexibility and adequacy by developing capacity and capability mechanisms that value firm capacity, fast response, and low-carbon flexibility together.

The paper also highlights the need for regional coordination within Europe’s interconnected power market and resilient supply chains for generation equipment, transformers, and grid infrastructure. GE Vernova to provide grid-stabilizing technology for Transgrid to support renewables rollout in Australia

3 min read

SYDNEY, Australia – November 06, 2025 –

  • GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has signed a contract with Transgrid for the supply of synchronous condensers, highly-sought-after equipment that will assist in stabilising the New South Wales (NSW) grid as it transitions from coal to renewables.
  • Synchronous condensers and associated systems to be supplied across five strategic sites on the NSW transmission network
  • These machines play a critical role in stabilizing modern electricity networks by providing inertia, voltage control, and fault current — functions traditionally supplied by large coal-fired generators. By replicating this stabilizing effect, these machines enable higher penetration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar, improving overall system performance and reducing costs for consumers.

GE Vernova Foundation Invests in Energy Industry Skills Development to Advance Critical Workforce Needs in Malaysia

9 min read
  • Scholarships will equip local workers and students with skills to secure quality, higher-wage jobs in the energy industry

  • Working with Assist International and Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) to create new training program

Shah Alam, Malaysia (November 5, 2025) – As part of continued efforts to educate and train the next generation of energy leaders around the globe, the GE Vernova Foundation today announced a grant of more than $950,000 to Assist International to create a new, three-year vocational and technical training scholarship program in Malaysia. The GE Vernova Energy Industry Skills scholarship will provide access to two nationally accredited certification programs for high-demand skills, serving both new learners looking to enter the workforce and current workers seeking to upskill, directly supporting Malaysia’s growing industrial workforce needs.

Within the next decade, one of the greatest challenges for the energy sector will be the increasing demand for workers with technical skills. This new scholarship is intended to eliminate financial barriers and ensure inclusive access to training for nearly 500 students and workers, covering tuition, tools and essential wrap around services, including accommodations, meals, and transportation. This program supports the goals of Malaysia’s National TVET Policy 2030, a forward-looking blueprint designed to strengthen industry alignment, elevate training quality, and enhance the national recognition of vocational education.

“The GE Vernova Foundation is proud to support the next generation of energy leaders,” said Kristin Carvell, GE Vernova Foundation President and Chief Communications Officer, GE Vernova. “This new scholarship will help equip hundreds of participants with the skills needed to secure quality, higher-wage jobs powering the future of energy – a win for families, Malaysians and the world.”

"Technical and skills training is critical for the energy sector moving forward," said Ramesh Singaram, Board Director, GE Vernova Foundation and President & CEO, Gas Power Asia, GE Vernova. "We are proud to collaborate with Assist and FMSDC to create new opportunities for Malaysian students and workers, offering pathways to well-paying jobs that promote financial independence."

Founded in 1990, Assist International is a non-profit organization that designs and implements sustainable development programs in more than 50 countries focusing on systems strengthening and capacity building. Assist International will partner with Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), a non-profit established to strengthen the technical and vocational education across Malaysia.

“Assist International is honored to partner with the GE Vernova Foundation in its global commitment to expanding skills training for the energy transition,” said Cheri Reynolds, Vice President, Strategy & Programs, Assist International. “We are excited to support FMSDC’s vision to equip students with practical skills that open doors to opportunity and strengthen Malaysia’s sustainable future. Together, this collaboration empowers communities by building the technical capacity that drives innovation, economic growth, and long-term sustainable development.”

“FMSDC is proud to collaborate with the GE Vernova Foundation to equip Malaysians, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, with the technical skills needed for the country’s energy transition,” said Hallman Sabri, Chairman of FMSDC. By ensuring access to quality training and professional certifications in critical skills such as electrical systems and welding, this initiative helps break barriers for underprivileged groups, supports career advancement, and builds a more inclusive workforce. At the same time, it strengthens industry capabilities and contributes to Malaysia’s sustainable energy future.”

Skilled trades are the backbone of Malaysia’s goal to reach net zero by 2050 and a central pillar of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which identifies human capital and capabilities as a key enabler of the country’s energy transition. Achieving these goals will require thousands of electricians, welders, and technicians to design, build, and maintain renewable energy systems, smart grids, and efficient infrastructure across the country. The GE Vernova Energy Industry Skills scholarship is investing in vocational training, strengthening Malaysia’s local talent pipeline while reducing reliance on foreign expertise to prepare individuals for high-quality, future-ready jobs.

GE Vernova currently provides up to 40% of Malaysia’s electricity and is well-positioned to support the country’s transition towards its 2050 net zero goals. GE Vernova has a strong long-standing relationship with the country's energy utilities and independent power producers. With the largest base of installed gas turbines in Malaysia today, GE Vernova provides power with 7 units of H-Class technology across the country including the Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor which is able to burn up to 50% hydrogen blends and is expected to generate approximately 2,500 job opportunities for the local community.

As GE Vernova pursues its mission to electrify to thrive and decarbonize, the GE Vernova Foundation is committed to building the workforce needed for a sustainable energy future. Global programs have been launched in over a dozen communities where GE Vernova has operations, supporting the goal to train 30,000 students and learners by 2030. Since its inception, the Foundation has reached nearly 5,700 students and learners globally, providing them with skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the energy industry. This new scholarship in Malaysia is a significant step forward in that mission, reinforcing the Foundation’s dedication to creating a skilled, sustainable workforce that can meet the demands of the evolving energy landscape.

7 min read
  • GE Vernova provided its 7HA.01 gas turbine and a service agreement for 20 years, including maintenance and supply of parts

  • Project, delivered on time despite the period of intense demand, is expected to be among the most efficient power plants in the Kingdom, delivering up to 314 tons per hour of steam and up to 320 megawatts (MW) of electricity for Jafurah natural gas production operations

  • GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT) completed the rollout of the 7HA.01 gas turbine equipping the plant, making it the first H-Class gas turbine to be completed locally in the Kingdom

ADIPEC, Abu Dhabi, UAE - (November 3, 2025): In conjunction with ADIPEC 2025, GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) announced that Jafurah Cogeneration Independent Steam and Power Plant (ISPP) achieved the start of commercial operations. The plant is located approximately 125 kilometers southeast of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. GE Vernova provided a holistic solution including the core power plant equipment, its 7HA.01 gas turbine, and a service agreement for 20 years, including maintenance and supply of parts aiming to manage all aspects of the engine’s lifecycle.

The facility is expected to be among the most efficient power plants in Saudi Arabia.

The cogeneration process maximizes energy output by capturing and reusing excess heat or steam. The plant is expected to deliver up to 314 tons/hour of steam, as well as up to 320 megawatts (MW) of electricity to support Jafurah gas field operations. By 2030, the Jafurah gas field is expected to produce up to 630,000 barrels of natural gas liquids and condensates, as well as over 420 million standard cubic feet of ethane per day.

“Significantly increasing gas production capacity over the next decade will positively contribute to the Kingdom’s energy mix and support self-sufficiency in gas supply as demand for power continues to grow in residential and industrial sectors,” said a representative of Doosan Enerbility.  “The development of the Jafurah gas field was a very ambitious project and as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company we’re proud to have supported it.”

This project, featuring GE Vernova’s first H-Class gas turbine completed in Saudi Arabia, has contributed to the local economy by creating direct and indirect jobs and expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities.

“We are pleased to have successfully met our commitments, ensuring the timely launch of operations despite the period of intense demand,” said Joseph Anis, President & CEO for GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, Middle East & Africa. “Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, we are proud the turbine was completed and delivered from GESAT, advancing local industrialization and strengthening the Kingdom’s power sector.”

Since its establishment in 2017, GESAT has played an important role in meeting the Kingdom's demand for gas turbines, specifically through the localized completion of high-performance F-class and H-class gas turbines, and the manufacturing of post cast components and accessory modules.

GESAT was formerly a joint venture between Dussur and GE Vernova. In September 2024, GE Vernova acquired Dussur’s shares to continue enabling economic diversification, localization, high value exports, and talent development efforts in the country to support the Kingdom’s goals under Saudi Vision 2030. The facility is a part of the GE Manufacturing & Technology Center (GEMTEC) campus.

GE Vernova has contributed to the development of the Kingdom’s energy infrastructure for approximately 90 years. Today, the company’s investments in the country include the Khobar Integration Facility (KIF) for grid solutions and the GEMTEC campus, which houses a Service and Repairs Center for gas turbines, the MENA Decarbonization Center of Excellence, and a Monitoring & Diagnostics Center for the remote monitoring of power generation assets, in addition to GESAT.

GE Vernova is a Gold Sponsor at ADIPEC 2025, taking place November 3–6 at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi, UAE. At stand 7135 in Hall 7, the company is showcasing technologies that help maintain reliable, affordable, and secure electricity systems; increase access to power; reduce carbon emissions; and enable communities to thrive. Solutions highlighted include flexible lower‑carbon natural gas fired turbines and their use of hydrogen fuel or integration into carbon capture systems, direct air capture (DAC) technology, synchronous condensers, battery energy storage systems (BESS), power conversion solutions, and SF₆‑free switchgears. The stand will also feature grid applications with GridBeats™ – AI/ML‑enabled digitalization, grid automation, and other advanced solutions, like GE Vernova’s GridOS® orchestration software.
