Tucked away on Tanzania’s southeastern coast, not far from the border with Mozambique, Mtwara is a region with vast potential. Rich in both onshore and offshore natural gas, it has become central to government plans for long-term economic growth. Yet, until recently, power demand was outpacing the available power supply in the region.

The world’s energy challenges unfold on long timelines, stretching across generations. Addressing them requires sustained innovation, driven by people with curiosity, creativity, and collaborative instincts — many of whom are still children today.

Statistics reflect what leaders like Yogini Parkhi know from experience. At a key moment in many girls’ lives, they’re nudged away from interests like math and science. “I know it happened to me growing up in India,” says Parkhi, the engineering leader for GE Vernova’s Grid OS Data Fabric and Connect business. She saw the same thing happen with her daughter years later in the States. “When she was 10 she could solve a Rubik’s Cube in 50 seconds,” Parkhi recalls. “But she pulled away from puzzles and math competitions because of social pressure telling her these were ‘boy things.’”

This past May, 12 U.S. military veterans joined forces to carry an American flag 3,000 miles from San Diego to Washington, D.C. Team Red, White & Blue completed the Old Glory Ultra Relay in a record time of less than 17 days, raising more than $1 million for the cause of veterans’ health and wellness. One of those dozen men and women was Jordan Buck, an Army vet and steelworker in lean operations at GE Vernova’s manufacturing facility in Schenectady, New York.

Last week, at Climate Week NYC, GE Vernova was an influential voice in shaping the global conversation on smarter, more sustainable energy — highlighting the need for breakthrough solutions and urging bold leadership to meet accelerating demand. While the UN General Assembly drew headlines across town, GE Vernova contributed to the “Power On” theme at Climate Week by announcing recent advances in nuclear and carbon capture, and promoting a message of optimism, urgency, and collaboration.

At just one year old, the standalone energy technology company is remaking itself into a key player in the global energy transition. Spearheaded by a big theme, The Energy of Change, the company believes a relentless, forward-looking optimism in its work culture is a powerful tool to meet the challenges of decarbonization.

Keeping up with changes that support customers’ needs and increase employee satisfaction is an important part of building the future at GE Vernova. Though working from different parts of the world, these three team members — who appeared today at the New York Stock Exchange opening bell to celebrate Earth Day — share values, and each one sets an example by bringing talent and enthusiasm to their work in building relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
