Our Level-2 service centers specialize in providing corrective maintenance for aeroderivative gas turbines, but with one distinction: We keep our repairs local for more convenient and faster service.
There are nine GE Vernova Level-2 service centers that service the Americas, APAC, and EMEA regions, all with standardized work scopes and capabilities to help ensure consistency.
Level-2 maintenance can be performed horizontally, both for installed and non-installed engines. This includes module exchanges and vane and blade replacement on rotating compressor blades.
All our shop work is conducted under consistent, controlled conditions to make sure that factors like temperature, humidity, and airflow have minimal impact on equipment, procedures and outcomes.

Frequently asked questions
Level-2 maintenance is conducted in the horizontal position either onsite or in our Level-2 facilities on the external to the package. This includes sensors, actuators, and thermocouples.
The scope of Level-2 repairs also includes corrective maintenance like modular exchanges, top cases, and hot sections. While many Level-2 scopes can be done onsite, the advantage of an Level-2 service center is that it is a maintenance facility with a controlled environment conducive to safe working conditions. High volume shops have dedicated shop leaders and OEM-qualified tooling; in many cases, it is within easier reach of our local technicians and typically faster than our Level-4 service centers.
Conversely, our Level-4 facilities are typically reserved for complete teardowns and major overhauls as well as component repairs.
Repair durations are entirely dependent on scope. Typical timelines for Level-2 repairs range from a few days to a couple weeks, but each case varies. At GE Vernova, we determine the appropriate shop for your equipment based on repair needs. Level-4 scopes are usually more complex, leading to longer repair times.
It is our ambition to undertake more scope in our Level-2 facilities, thereby adding more value to the maintenance chain. However, our capabilities in doing so vary across locations. The U.S., for example, has an installed base that is five times that of Asia. Our team considers that it would be possible to upgrade our Asia shops and match up to 80% of the US shops’ capabilities to meet customer demand.
A site’s ability to operate in a similar capacity as an Level-2 service center is entirely dependent on its capabilities and facilities. As an example, if a site has an overhead crane with an enclosed climate-controlled space, there ares more repairs that can be done locally compared that to a site with none of those types of facilities.
The Level-2 service centers typically take between four and 12 days on average, depending on the work scope and how many work scopes. For example, we can perform a standard hot section repair in as little as four to six days depending on the engine model. If there are additional scopes, then turnaround time increases.
Given the various environments and operating profiles, performance degradation analysis is a unit and site-specific calculation. Upon request, GE Vernova can perform the analysis to assist the customer in determining their specific aggregation over time. If there's an interest in performing an analysis, contact your CSL.
The Level-2 shops follow the O&M manual, and our technicians are trained and qualified to these standards. All our evaluation and services are approved and authorized from our services engineering group.
Our North American shops offer various repair services across our different aeroderivative solutions. We offer inlet gear box (IGB) on both LM6000s and LM2500s. Our Level-2 service centers can also conduct number three seal changes on LM2500s and number one seal changes on LM6000s. We’ve also done specific scopes on LMS100’s independent power turbines (IPTs) and high-pressure power turbines (HPTs). Additionally, we are also doing extensive LMS100 repairs at our Level-2 service centers, often resulting in significant amount of downtime savings for customers.
There is a product support engineering team dedicated to servicing your needs within the Latin American region. We also have roughly 25 field services technicians that alternate between Level-2 facilities and the field sites in Latin America as well as approximately 80 in North America that can step in and provide support when needed. Our Bakersfield, Houston, and Syracuse Level-2 service centers all share the ability to work the LM2500, the LMS100, and the LM6000 engines. However, we currently don’t have the ability to work on TM packages at our Level-2 service centers, but once the engine is out of the package we have the same repair capabilities as the other engines.
Due to its diverse geography, culture, language, and size, Asia is geographically vast and diverse—and there are several regulatory frameworks companies need to comply with across countries, such as varying customs and import regulations. In many cases, it is more efficient to send an engine to one of our Level-2 locations rather than work onsite, where the availability of labor, parts, technical resources, and tooling need to be considered. In addition, our shops are kept at a controlled temperature and climate, eliminating the varying environments across Asia, and operate with a strong focus on worker safety.
There is an Level-2 service center in Australia, located on the Jandakot airport grounds near Perth. We've had numerous customers send engines to that Level-2 service center where we perform numerous scopes, and we welcome any of our Australian customers to visit.

New opening
In late October, we celebrated the opening of a new Level-2 service center in the Parque industrial Centenario, in the Neuquén Province, Argentina. The new facility marks GE Vernova’s first repair center for GE Vernova’s Aeroderivative business in Latin America and is expected to boost repair capabilities for GE Vernova’s aeroderivatives gas turbines fleet based in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
