Overview
Vietnam’s power sector faced rising electricity demand, growing renewable penetration, and a need to reduce reliance on coal while maintaining system reliability. PV Power needed a large-scale facility with fast start-up, load flexibility, and proximity to demand centers.
GE Vernova provided two blocks that each included:
Each block (unit) can produce more than 800 megawatts. The scope also included long-term collaboration frameworks to support operations and potential efficiency improvements at existing PV Power assets.
Outcomes
With both units in commercial operation, the plant delivers large-scale, flexible power and supports lower lifecycle emissions than coal-fired generation. The plant’s configuration also includes a Mark VIe distributed control system, supporting precise operational management and monitoring. Near Vietnam’s southern load center, the site enables efficient connection to the regional grid to enhance national energy security. The project also creates a framework for future HA-class combined-cycle installations in the country, providing a reference for system integration, maintenance, and long-term operational planning.
