Sump evacuation system
The sump evacuation system (SES) restores the required differential pressure in the DE bearing sumps to vastly reduce or potentially eliminate oil leaks during low-power operation, engine load rejects, or trips from high power.

What can upgrading do for you?
- Reduced oil leaks: Differential pressure is maintained across bearing sump oil seals to reduce leakage during low power operation or gas turbine trips.
- Lowered maintenance costs: Oil leaks can lead to internal turbine rear frame (TRF) coking. By reducing the leaks, additional maintenance costs associated with TRF coking issues can be significantly reduced or eliminated.
- Increased uptime.
How we get you there
- The necessary differential pressure across the bearing sump oil seals is maintained with an electric motor-driven blower installed in the air/oil separator discharge line.
- The blower is enabled when the high-pressure rotor speed is greater than 300 rpm and when the differential pressure across the sump and ambient air is less than 8 psig.
The upgrade requires the following modifications:
- Mechanical scope: Includes the installation of the vacuum blower in the air/oil separator line, corresponding support structure, vibration isolators, flexible stainless steel ducting, and lifting lugs.
- Electrical scope: Includes the installation of a new pressure differential transmitter, vacuum blower motor, and new electrical cable to the interconnection point.
- Control sequencing: Modifications to control sequencing software.
