Overview
Operating in a densely populated region of a densely populated country, Nigeria’s Dangote Cement not only needed to reduce unplanned downtime, but also needed to become energy self-sufficient. With seven aging turbines and a need for digital connectivity, they turned to GE Vernova.
GE Vernova was set to modernize seven GE Vernova LM6000PC aeroderivative gas turbines—and to install its asset performance management (APM) at Dangote Cement’s plants in Obajana and Ibese. GE Vernova’s digital APM solution is proven in helping reduce unplanned downtime and boosting operational efficiency.

GE Vernova’s digital solutions will allow us to anticipate further reductions in downtime and to become more self-sufficient in power production in a country with approximately 190 million inhabitants. Operational performance is crucial in the most populous country in Africa, and it also being the seventh most populous country in the world.

GE Vernova deployed APM—its cutting-edge technology that accurately monitors power-generation assets. GE Vernova’s digital management reduces turbine damage and downtime through visibility. Performance-sensors were installed not just on Dangote Cement’s seven aeroderivative turbines but also on associated generators and gearboxes, so that APM can diagnose and predict risks before they occur.
As energy infrastructures become digitally smarter, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance become easier to integrate. Inasmuch, GE Vernova extended its service agreement with Dangote Cement for another 50,000 operating hours for the seven GE Vernova LM6000PC turbines, ensuring the kind of power-supply efficiency that can extend the life of cement plants.
This extension underscores GE Vernova's commitment to collaborating with customers aiming for a lower OpEx and balance of plant. “Operational performance is crucial to our cement plant’s overall productivity, directly affecting all end products,” says Ravi Sood, Dangote Cement Operations Director. With GE Vernova’s APM and total plant solutions, Dangote Cement gained the high-performance operability essential to asset health—and the plants’ business strategy.
