MONITORING & METERING

Traceable Watt-Hour Test Pulse for Accuracy Certification
To be certified for revenue metering, power providers and utility companies need to know that the billing energy meter will perform to its stated accuracy. To verify the meter's performance and calibration, power providers use field test standards to ensure that the unit's energy measurements are correct. Since the EPM 7100 submeters are traceable revenue meters, they contain a utility grade test pulse allowing power providers to verify and confirm that the meters are performing to their rated accuracy. This is an essential feature required in all billing grade meters.

Utility Peak Demand Metering
EPM 7100 submeters provide user-configured Block Window or Rolling Window Demand. This allows you to set up a particular utility demand profile. Block Window Demand is demand used over a fixed user-configured demand period (usually 5, 15 or 30 minutes). Rolling Window Demand is a fixed window demand that moves for a user specified sub-interval period. An example is a 15 minute demand using 3 subintervals, providing a new demand reading every 5 minutes based on the last 15 minutes. Readings for kW, kVAR, kVA and PF are calculated using utility demand structures. Other parameters offer max and min capability over the user-selectable averaging period. Voltage provides a non-rolling instantaneous max and min reading, displaying the highest surge and lowest sag seen by the meter.

COMMUNICATIONS

Standard Modbus RS485 Communication
Standard communication includes an RS485 output speaking Modbus protocol. This allows the unit to be connected to any serial RS485 bus using the Modbus interface. The unit communicates easily with most building automation or other software systems. Baud rates are up to 57.6K baud to provide fast update times.

WiFi or LAN-Based Ethernet
The unit offers two Ethernet options — either an RJ45 or WiFi connection. The WiFi option allows the EPM 7100 submeter to be used on standard WiFi base stations.

IrDA Port
Use an IrDA-equipped laptop PC to program and read the EPM 7100 submeter.

KYZ Pulse
For applications in which a pulse is needed, the unit also provides a KYZ output which pulses proportional to the amount of energy consumed. This feature is used for pulse counting applications or for building management systems where serial or Ethernet protocol is not available.

EPM 7100 ADVANCED LOGGING FEATURES

Extensive Data Logging Capability
The EPM 7100 submeter has 2 Megabytes of Flash memory that give it extensive data logging capability. The EPM 7100 offers three historical logs, a limits (alarm) log and a system events log. The unit has a real-time clock that allows for time-stamping of all the data in the instrument when log events are created.

Historical Logs
Each of the three historical logs can be programmed with unique parameters consisting of any measured reading. Up to 64 parameters can be recorded per log.

Limits (Alarm) Log
The limits log provides magnitude and duration of an event. 2,048 events are available; the log provides time-stamp and alarm value.

System Events (Anti-Tampering) Log
To protect critical billing information, the meter records and logs the following with a time stamp:

  • Demand/energy/log resets

  • Password requests

  • System startup

  • Log reads

  • Changes to meter's programmable settings

INSTALLATION

Universal Voltage and Current

This meter allows voltage input measurements up to 416 Volts Line to Neutral and 721 volts Line to Line. This helps ensure proper meter safety when wiring directly to high voltage systems. The unit will perform to specification on 69 Volt, 120 Volt, 230 Volt, 277 Volt and 347 Volt power systems.

Unique Current Input Connections

EPM 6010 meter uses two current input wiring methods.

Method One - CT pass through. Directly pass the CT through the meter without any physical termination on the meter.
This insures that the meter cannot be a point of failure on the CT circuit. This is preferable to utility users when sharing relay class CTs.
No Burden is added to the secondary CT circuit.

Method Two - Current "Gills." The meter additionally provides ultra-rugged termination pass through bars allowing the CT leads to be terminated on the meter. This also eliminates any possible point of failure at the meter. This method is also a preferred technique for ensuring relay class CT integrity does not get compromised. No terminal blocks are required and this stud based design ensures that CTs will not open under a fault condition.

Through a standard Ethernet port, the EPM 6010 can easily integrate into systems using BACnet/IP or Modbus TCP.

Solid Construction with Mounting Versatility

The EPM 6010 has a rugged design for harsh environment. This is especially important in power generation, utility substation, and critical user applications. The structural and electrical design of this meter was developed based on the recommendations and approvals of many of our utility customers.

EPM 6010 can easily be mounted in a panel for generator monitoring, substation automation and more. The unique dual design combines ANSI and DIN mounting structure and allows easy installation for both new metering applications and retrofit of existing analog meters.

The unit mounts directly in an ANSI C39.1 (4" Round form) or an IEC 92 mm DIN square form.

EPM 4600 Power Meter

Consolidated, Cost Effective, Multiple Point Metering

To support and implement an effective energy management strategy, a baseline of energy measurements are required. The Multilin EPM 4600 Multi-feed Power and Energy Meter is a submetering solution that allows owners and operators to quickly, accurately and centrally measure power and energy usage of specific areas to reduce operating expenses. The EPM 4600 empowers users with greater energy awareness leading to improved tenant attraction and retention and greater overall efficiency throughout facilities.

Application Example: Multi-Tenant Metering

Challenge

In a commercial shopping mall, multiple tenants distributed throughout the building and various building operation elements such as heating/cooling systems, water management, lighting and transportation (escalators/elevators) all consume energy. Often, it is difficult for building owners and operators to know the amount of energy consumed by each element.

Solution

The EPM 4600 provides a multi-feed energy submetering solution that allows owners and operators to quickly, accurately and centrally measure power and energy usage of specific areas. With its extensive communications capabilities, installation of the single multi-feed meter is simple and allows for existing secure Wi-Fi networks to be utilized to perform data collection.

User-Friendly Touch Screen Display

Two Size Options for Flexible Installation

Energy and metering information is easily presented to users via pre-configured, user friendly, optional, touch-screen, color LED displays that connect to the EPM 4600. These low power consumption, 65K color displays are available in two sizes: a larger 5.7” (PL4600-DIS5700) and a smaller 3.5” (PL4600-DIS3500) display.

User-Friendly Installation and Setup

Installation is quick and simple using the included display installation kit and a standardized 22mm panel mount, circular cutout. The lower power consumption display is remotely powered by a supplied 24VDC standard plug power supply. Each display comes with pre-configured screens and communications for plug-and-play, out of the box use. Further customization of the display settings such as changing the default display screen or communications settings are available through on-screen setup menus.

Local and Remote Display Connectivity

Communications to the display are provided via the EPM 4600 RS485 serial communications port and/or optional RJ45 Ethernet port. This allows users the capability and flexibility of installing local or remote displays depending upon visualization requirements.
