Today’s challenge for operators

Growing revenue as the temperature drops

Could you benefit from having the capability to improve your plant's performance during cold ambient conditions? OpFlex Cold Day Performance can help deliver the operational muscle to help you achieve high-level performance, while maintaining reliable operation.

Cold Day Performance features and benefits

The OpFlex 7FA Cold Day Performance solution was specifically developed to increase unit output and improve heat rate at compressor inlet temperatures of less than 59°F (15°C). Cold Day Performance increases F-class gas turbine capacity and exhaust energy, a particularly beneficial feature for combined-cycle operations.

Historically, the F-design required reduced firing temperatures below 59°F (15°C) to remedy higher emissions and dynamics levels caused by limited combustor operability in colder inlet temperatures. The OpFlex platform removes this restriction, and provides unsuppressed base-load firing temperatures during colder inlet temperatures, while maintaining low emissions and dynamics levels.

Cold Day Performance benefits:

  • Simple-cycle users can expect to increase output by up to 5MW
  • Maintain emissions levels while increasing capacity, and improving heat rate
  • Units with inlet chillers can expect up to 1.5MW of incremental output at typical chiller operating conditions (about 50°F [10°C])
