The latest instruments for balance of plant

No matter your industry—chemicals, refinery, steel, or cement—an unchecked loss of flame can bring production to a halt. GE Vernova’s non-optical flame detector (NOFD) software can help improve the safe operation of your F-class gas turbine and reduce the risk of unplanned outages due to failed flame scanners and leaky water-cooling circuits.

Eliminating flame scanners

GE Vernova’s NOFD software gathers information from your combustor as effectively as flame scanners, but without the sensor maintenance. Instead of relying on visuals to read lightwaves, the NOFD uses our Mark VIe algorithm—along with your existing turbine instrumentation—to determine if the flame isn’t detected.

GE Vernova remotely monitors the NOFD, and extensively measures data that can improve the operational safety of your 6F.03, 7F, and 9F gas turbines.

Other benefits include:

  • Data-fed Mark VIe algorithm replaces older photo-electronic sensors
  • NOFD seamlessly integrates with your existing system
  • Install time can be as fast as a software update
  • The software uses multiple, aggregated signals for accurate readings
  • Faster detection time than required, helping maintain safety standards
  • Boost safety rigor with four devices
  • Remove outdated water-cooling circuits from your turbine’s engine compartment
  • Software’s accuracy is 99+% in comprehensive testing**

Reducing maintenance costs and unplanned outages

Traditional water-cooled flicker detectors sit close to the turbine, and such high temperatures result in electronics maintenance. GE Vernova’s NOFD software is safely situated, and not limited to a cone of UV or infrared vision. The software integrates your redundant sensors to detect safety-critical events like loss of flame and ignition.

NOFD is available in two packages:

Base package: NOFD software and HMI screen changes along with associated drawing updates. The existing optical flame detectors remain installed but become monitoring-only devices.

  • NOFD Base Software Package
  • Accessory drawing updates
  • HMI screen updates

Extended package: Base package, plus permanent removal of the optical-flame detectors and de-commissioning of associated accessories and wiring, such as the water-cooling circuit in the turbine compartment.

  • Optical flame detector (FD) removal
  • Optical FD plug installation
  • Decommissioning of existing water-cooling circuit (if present)
  • Accessory drawing updates
  • Software cleanup (optical FD I/O removal and associated usages)
  • Optical FD wiring removal

Start saving money right away with the NOFD algorithm and lower your financial risk from unplanned outages.
