Gas turbine technology offers energy security through the production of more reliable, flexible and sustainable electricity that firms and complements renewable power sources. This configuration provides flexible reserve capacity and grid stabilizing services to balance intermittencies of renewable energy resources. Grid firming assets can include gas turbines, synchronous condensers, and batteries with inverters.

Grid firming, also known as grid stability, encompasses the technologies and strategies that aim to keep power systems stable and reliable as renewable penetration increases. As wind and solar scale, grids face greater variability, reduced inertia, and more frequent supply-demand imbalances. Grid firming addresses these dynamics helping to ensure electricity is available when and where it's needed, without compromising decarbonization* progress.
Renewable deployment, electrification, and data center load growth are outpacing traditional grid planning cycles. The result: rising curtailment, congestion, and reliability risk. Grid firming is no longer a supplemental consideration, it's core infrastructure, on par with transmission and generation.

Structure is often the biggest barrier. Many existing frameworks help compensate energy delivery but can undervalue the stability and resilience services that firming assets may provide. Attracting private capital requires clear, durable signals: long-term contracts, ancillary service mechanisms, and capacity or flexibility segments that reflect real system needs.
