Energy Efficiency & Decarbonization

GE
CLEAN-SHIP

GE Power Conversion is an innovator in clean-ship technologies, with options for energy efficiency to help meet regulations for new ships and fleet upgrades. We are deploying the latest systems that can reduce emissions by up to 20%, but working in tandem on de-risking and proving new, zero emission solutions

Electric Ship: Enabler of Decarbonization

  • Optimizing electrical layout and redundancy, flexible to share all power sources across all loads loads and ‘right size’ the power system.

  • Replacing generators or engines by ‘plugging in’ new technologies -achievable with lower disruption in an electric drive system.

  • Closed bus operation for improved efficiency, approved by DNV, ABS and Lloyd’s Register.

  • Maximizing utilization of high-efficiency power electronics and architectures.

  • Variable frequency systems for more optimized operation and fuel efficiency.

SeaGreen™ Hybrids:
PTO/PTI and Battery Energy Storage

  • Customers can benefit from a hybrid of new energy sources, like fuel cells and battery energy storage solutions to enable different energy use modes, including engine-off operation for entry into port, and power network boost to manage and smooth peak loads without oversizing the power system.

  • Hull-side and containerized energy stores, directly integrated to LV systems or via transformer on high voltage networks.

  • Power take-off compact shaft generators help propulsion engines operate at an efficient operating point, redeploying excess power for on-board electric supplies and reducing dependence on separate diesel generators.
General Electric

SeaGreen™ Fuel Cell Systems

  • PEM hydrogen fuel cell integrated system for zero emission power and propulsion operation, in partnership with Nedstack.

  • Options for propulsion power, or auxiliary power for larger ships, integrated into the power network and energy management systems.

Energy & Power Management

  • SeaStream Energy Efficient Dynamic Positioning can improve fuel consumption by 10% and NOx emissions by 20%. Modes can be aligned with vessel operating cycles, conditions to require less thruster engagement.

  • Digital Suite Operations+ Energy Optimization analyses data relating to vessel operation, power system configuration, weather conditions and position to help the crew to optimize fuel efficiency of the vessel with simple, real-time advisory dashboards. Supports IMO SEEMP reporting requirements.

  • VesPA (vessel performance analyzer) – one of our SeaLab design tools – is a comprehensive configurator app that allows different integrated power system designs to be rapidly reconfigured during the design and modelling phase. Together with customers we can quickly evaluate power system options for energy-efficiency, performance, CapEx and OpEx benefits and trade-offs.
